The Tukino Skifield is recognized by Skills Active as a Registered Workplace. Skills Active is the Industry Training Organisation (ITO) for Outdoor Recreation (including Snowsport).

Tukino is able to offer some of the following NZQA certified courses directly from the workplace (Tukino Skifield). These courses are available to our Tukino Volunteer Ski Patrollers and other full-time Tukino Skifield staff.

Ski patrol

Provide Basic Life Support - Unit Standards 6400, 6401, 6402 (Level 1-3)

This is a basic First Aid Course which is a prerequisite for persons wishing to join the Tukino Volunteer Ski Patrol.

There are many providers of this First Aid course e.g. Lakes Medical Services Trust, St John, Red Cross, Peak Safety etc. Obtaining an outdoor focused First Aid Course qualification is preferable.

Provide Basic Emergency Care - Unit Standard 29321 (Level 3)

This Unit Standard replaces the old Pre-Hospital Emergency Care (PHEC) qualification which expires at the end of 2019.

We hope to be able to run this (or the old equivalent PHEC) course at Tukino prior to the start of the 2019 ski season.

New Zealand Certificate in Snowsport, Patrol (Level 4).

Training for the New Zealand Certificate in Snowsport Patrol (Level 4) is available over a 1-2 year period in return for your voluntary patrolling at Tukino.

This training consists of on field training and assessment in the NZQA Unit Standards associated with the certificate.

This course is available to our Tukino Volunteer Ski Patrollers and other full-time Tukino Skifield staff.

This certificate qualification is planned to be available sometime in 2019.

Avalanche Risk Management

Limited Credit Program, Introductory Avalanche Risk Management (i-ARM) (Level 5).

Enrolment is planned to be available from May 2019.

More information about this course will be available shortly.

To obtain this qualification on the job, a Skills Active trainee needs to be working as a volunteer or paid employee in the snowsport industry.

We plan to offer this course to our Tukino Volunteer Ski Patrollers and other Tukino full-time staff when it becomes available

New Zealand Certificate in Avalanche Risk Management (Level 5). (Equivalent to the old Avalanche 1 qualification).

This certificate qualification is NOT YET available through Skills Active as a Workplace Training Course.
