Discover the eastern slopes of Mt. Ruapehu and have a unique skiing and boarding experience on a friendly club operated skifield. Tukino offers you the chance to avoid the crowds of Whakapapa or Turoa,

Get away from the hectic and commercial based ski fields and really explore the slopes. We specialize in being a very family friendly skifield with heaps of activities for everyone.

Nestled on the eastern slopes of Mt Ruapehu in New Zealand’s North Island, Tukino Skifield offers the rare combination of adventure and lack of crowds, coupled with the friendliness and camaraderie that’s only found on club-operated fields. Tukino is a club ski field, operated and maintained by club members.

The Tukino Skifield is open to the public and visitors are most welcome to visit Tukino to ski, board or just play around in the snow.

This is what skiing used to be like – before hectic lifestyles and commercial interests took over! Visit Tukino and enjoy the scenery and camaraderie of others in our little spot of paradise at Tukino.

Where to hire ski gear

We do not hire any ski gear at Tukino. However you can hire your gear off the mountain as you drive up to the Tukino Skifield.

If you need to hire gear off the mountain, we can recommend:

The Tukino slopes are sheltered from the prevailing westerly winds and the field is often operating in clear weather when the rest of the mountain is blanketed in cloud.

For the early riser, snow conditions are very pleasant in the mornings thanks to the warmth of the morning sun. This does not mean slushy snow later in the day though, as Tukino maintains a relatively constant temperature due to being in a fairly open area.
